Bonny Island, Rivers State, Nigeria – June 25, 2025 — The Bonny Island Marathon (BIM) Local Organizing Committee is pleased to announce the opening of registration for the 2025 edition starting today, June 25 till the end of November 2025.
2025 Vision: Unlocking Access and Amplifying Impact - This year's event scheduled for December 20, 2025 with the theme; "Miles2Gr8ness," celebrates eight years of impactful growth, transformative community engagement, and the milestone opening of the historic Bonny-Bodo Road, which now connects Bonny Island to mainland Rivers State by land for the first time. This significant infrastructure will undoubtedly transform logistics, participation, and access to the Island, setting the stage for an even more robust marathon experience this year.
The "Miles2Gr8ness" campaign is more than a slogan—it’s a symbol of resilience, excellence, and transformation. With over 10,000 runners expected in 2025, the marathon will serve as a convergence point for athletes, tourists, brands, and communities across Nigeria and beyond.
Endorsements That Matter
In an exciting turn of events, we are proud to also announce we have received official endorsements and recommendation from the Bonny Local Government Council and the Bonny Chiefs’ Council, further strengthening the project’s legitimacy and aligning it with key institutional stakeholders in the region. These endorsements recognize the Bonny Island Marathon as a pioneering initiative in youth development, tourism, and regional identity building.
Now entering its 8th Edition, the Bonny Island Marathon has evolved into a national beacon of sports-tourism excellence, attracting runners from across Nigeria and beyond which was evident in the fact that it was awarded in 2022 as the ‘Emerging Sports Tourism Event’ of the year by the African Tourism Hub.
The Bonny Chiefs’ Council, in their statement, noted that:
“The Bonny Island Marathon has become a vital platform that unites the community, promotes the cultural heritage of Bonny Island, and inspires youth through the values of sportsmanship and resilience... With sustained support, this marathon will continue to deliver impactful benefits to Bonny Island and promote a positive image of our Kingdom.”
The Bonny Local Government Council also affirmed:
“This event has successfully positioned our community as a vibrant destination for sports tourism while fostering economic activities and social development... We strongly recommend it for support from stakeholders and sponsors.”
These endorsements mark a watershed moment in the marathon’s trajectory as it seeks broader collaborations and support.
